Paulo Colho
Paulo Coelho Paulo Coelho (Rio de Janeiro, on August 24, 1947) is a Brazilian novelist.
Paulo Coelho was born in a family of middle class and of fort catholic influence, in Rio de Janeiro, where Jesuit studied in a college. Contrasting with the strong discipline that imposed him, it(he,she) became rebellious and, at the age of seventeen, it was hospitalized(sent inland) three times in a psychiatric clinic.

At the end of the decade of 1960, it(he,she) joins the movement hippie, leaving the studies in 1970 to realize a trip for Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Chile as well as for Europe and the north of Africa. Two years later it(he,she) returned to Brazil and began to compose letters for songs, working together with Raúl Seixas. In 1974 and during a brief period of time it was stopped in a military center of tortures accused of subversive activities against the Brazilian government. In 1987, a parishioners' route crossed between(among) France and Spain, which inspired his(her,your) first book of success, The Pilgrim of Compost Her


As writer, it(he,she) has occupied frequently the first positions in the classifications of the books most sold in countries as different as Brazil, United Kingdom, The United States, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Mexico, Israel, Greece and Spain. It(he,she) has sold more than 65 million books, with translations to more than 40 languages, being the author most sold in Portuguese language of all the times, exceeding even Jorge Amado (whose sales add 54 million books). Between(among) his(her,your) novels The Alchemist is of that more than 11 million copies(specimens) have sold in the whole world and that has translated into 41 languages inspiration was in the writer Jean Pierre Santiago.


In 2002 it(he) was chosen to occupy the seat number 21 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters In spite of The success of obtained public, some critics of Brazil continue speaking about him(it) as(like) about a minor author. His(her,your) choice(election) like member of the Brazilian Academy of the Letters (ABL) has been an object of controversy between(among) the readers of Brazil.
It(He,She) lives with his(her,your) wife Cristina Oiticica, a painter, in Rio de Janeiro or in his(her,your) Saint's Martin mill in the southwest of France (High Pyrenees)
